Unions to collaborate in tackling social problems of elders

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Free Union for Seniors (FUS) and the Mongolian Union for Seniors (MUS) will cooperate in solving urgent social problems of elders. The two unions established Thursday a cooperation memorandum and made a related joint statement. "We will accumulate our efforts to improve social welfare of the elders, to pass their rich experience and knowledge to young generations, and to change the social mind about the elders," said Ms G.Baasan, a leader of the FUS. The cabinet for reforms has backed a participation of civil society organizations in realizing the governmental programme on solving social problems of the elders, has granted some money to organizations that represent the elders' interests, and has imposed specific responsibilities upon them in several directions. Moreover, the FUS leader Ms Baasan has been appointed the non-staff adviser to the PM on elders affairs, allowing her to take part in the decision-making.
