UNSC prepares Boeing crash draft resolution for voting

THE UNITED NATIONS, July 21 (Itar-Tass) - The UN Security Council has completed debate on a draft resolution over the crash of a Malaysia Airlines Boeing airliner in east Ukraine. This draft resolution takes into account both variants moved in by Russia and Australia. Russian Permanent Representative at the United Nations Vitaly Churkin assessed positively the talks on the draft resolution. “I believe that this was a useful meeting. We have worked out something, let’s see how it will be realised tomorrow,” the Russian diplomat said. Thus, the UN Security Council has completed work on a draft resolution over the Boeing airliner’s crash in east Ukraine that will be put up for voting at 3pm EDT (7pm GMT) on Monday. Russia proposes to conduct an investigation of the air crash by a group of experts under the aegis of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). ICAO is a quite appropriate organisation to find facts in the Boeing airliner’s crash. “ICAO has a necessary experience. They are not a party involved in this complicated situation [in Ukraine]. So, we believe that this is the only possible way out of the situation,” the diplomat said. Meanwhile, for involving the ICAO the precedent exists in 1988 when the UN Security Council asked to conduct the similar probe after the United States had downed an Iranian civilian airplane. On July 17, the Malaysia Airlines Boeing-777 passenger airliner on flight MH17 from the Dutch city of Amsterdam to the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur crashed in east Ukraine’s Donetsk region. All 298 people abroad the airliner died in the crash. Related news on itar-tass.com
