US Congressmen Dubious About Military Attack On Syria

New York, Sept 3, IRNA – Efforts of senior US government officials to win the Congress permission for military attacks against Syria have apparently fallen flat on both Republican and Democrat members of the body. Numerous meetings have been held between senior US officials and congressmen after President Barack Obama asked the US congress on Saturday to permit the Army to attack Syria. However, despite all efforts, a remarkable number of congress members have appeared to be opposing the governments plan. Democrat congresswoman from California Janice Hahn said she was extremely concerned about voting for entering the US into a war against a country which has not attacked America. She added many others in the congress have shared her view in this regard. Senior member of the Committee on Homeland Security Bennie Thompson, too said he was not convinced that any US intervention could settle problems in Syria and that was why he was to cast a “no” to the governments plan. A number of congressmen are questioning the results of a military attack plan which was made by President Obama. Some recent polls also indicated that a large portion of the US population was also against the plan./end
