US Leaders Not After Eliminating Terrorism: Journalist

New York, Oct 18, IRNA – An American journalist and political activist has said that we should not pin any hope in the US and other Western leaders in eradicating terrorism. Jennifer Loewenstein told IRNA in a recent interview that Western leaders are only thinking of their own economic and strategic interests in other countries, particularly in the Middle East region. She made the remarks while referring to President Hassan Rouhani's speech at the 69th annual session of the UN General Assembly delivered on September 24. Loewnstein said the so-called US-led coalition against the terrorist group of Daesh (ISIS) was aimed at not supporting the Iraqi people but safeguarding their interests in that country during its decade-long occupation. As long as the increase in anti-Islam sentiments is not against their interests, the US leaders will not oppose to it, said the political activist. Creating a propaganda fuss over the terrorist group of Daesh in Western media, President Barack Obama is to prepare the ground for the return of US troops to Iraq and resume US interference in that country, she added. Loewenstein, who is also the Associate Director of the Middle East Studies Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UWM), referred to US air strikes against Daesh positions as a safe game. The freelance journalist urged regional nations to learn how to enconter extremism stressing, the only way to prevent inclination to terrorist groups is the unity among Muslims./end
