US new government should be committed to nuclear deal: Senior MP

Abadan, Khuzestan Prov, Nov 10, IRNA – The Nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action, should be upheld by the President-elect of the United States and the new Administration of the country, says the chairman of Iran's Parliament Committee for Foreign Policy and National Security. The JCPOA is an official international binding agreement ratified by the United Nations Security Council, said Alaeddin Boroujerdi on Thursday during a visit to Iran's southwestern borders to monitor border passages established for safe commuting of the Iranian pilgrims entering Iraq. 'Regardless of which government is going to take charge in the US, it should be committed to the nuclear deal between Iran and P5+1,' Boroujerdi said. Commenting on the presidential election in the US that has brought to power Donald Trump, Boroujerdi said that Trump as the US president-elect is unlikely to be the same Trump on the campaign trail. Referring to Trump's election promise on the JCPOA that if elected he would tear up the agreement, the Iranian official said the Islamic Republic is going to rely on the guidelines set by the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sweyyed Ali Khamenei in this regard. 'As the Leader once said, if the US tears up the JCPOA, we will set it on fire,' he said. 1378/IRNA
