US officials aware fleet not in Yemeni waters against Iran – Iranian MP

Tehran, Iran, Apr. 21 By Mehdi Sepahvand – Trend: The Islamic Republic of Iran does not interfere with affairs in Yemen and so far there has been no shipment, Iranian MP and member of the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Abbasali Mansouri Arani told Trend April 21. His comment came in response to US media reports that US warships have taken position in Yemeni waters in order to prevent Iranian ships from entering the area. The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt has moved off the coast of Yemen to prepare to intercept potential shipments of Iranian weapons to the rebels fighting the U.S.-backed government of Yemen, Pentagon officials said Monday, a USA Today report said. But the US officials know well; and I do not think that they would believe themselves to have acted on those grounds, Arani asserted. They know well that the positions asserted by the Islamic Republic of Iran have so far turned out to be true in practice, the MP said, reiterating Tehran’s assertion on not interfering with the domestic affairs of other countries. He nevertheless went on to blame the global community for not cooperating with efforts by the Iranian Red Crescent to send food and drug shipments to the war-stricken people of Yemen. Western media accuse Iran of backing the Houthi group which has gained power in Yemen. Iran, however, rejects the claims as baseless.
