US Should Change Its Stance Against Iran : British Analyst

London, Oct 2, London - The US should seize the very rare opportunity which has been offered by Iran’s new President Hassan Rohani and take a realistic approach to Iran, according to British analyst and Middle East consultant Peter Eyre. “I personally think that President Obama and his aggressive US foreign policy no longer serves any purpose in todays world... the US should back down and change its current stance against Iran,” Eyer told IRNA in an interview. The following is the full text of the interview: - What is your opinion on recent developments on Iran – US relations, especially last minute telephone conversation between President Rohani and President Obama on Friday night? How optimistic are you about the future of Iran- US relations? I personally think that President Obama and his aggressive US foreign policy no longer serves any purpose in todays world and attempts by President Rohani to create improved relationship with such a regime, in its current state in my opinion would be fruitless. Iran has suffered severely under US led sanctions and yet continues to battle the storm. I believe that it should not be up to Iran to hold out a hand of friendship but rather the aggressor. Iran has done nothing wrong and it is the USA that should back down and change its current stance against Iran. - Most of the analysts believe Iran’s new President made important speeches at the UN last week, particularly on nuclear issue and Iran objection to the weapons of mass destruction, do you think now it is time for the US to try new and constructive approach on Iran? Iranian leaders both past and present have made it clear that they are not seeking nuclear weapons or weapons of mass destruction and clearly it must now rest on the shoulders of the US President to take advantage of the establishment of a new President and make a more realistic approach to Iran. - As you may know Iran’s Supreme Leader has issued a Fatwa (an Islamic decree) against production, stockpiling and use of nuclear weapons. What kind of role this Fatwa can play in nuclear talks and confidence building between Iran and the West? It is clear that the Supreme Leader, in his declaration of a Fatwa, and your new President should both play a major role in any future nuclear talks. The US President is fully aware that Iran has now offered the US an olive branch and should seize this opportunity knowing that such opportunities are very rare. - According to the Guardian “Israeli PM is angered at thawing relations between Washington and Tehran but observers say he is out of step with allies,” what do you make of this? Do you think Israel and Zionist lobbies can ruin Iran-US recent rapprochement? Israels approach to any Islamic nation has never changed and it has always been the case that if you do not favor or agree with US or Israeli foreign policy then you are immediately labelled an enemy of Israel. The Israeli PM will never settle until he has removed the regime in Syria and also gained a more user friendly government in Iran. We also must keep in mind his lack of wanting a peace settlement in Palestine. The aggressive Zionist controlled New World Order and Israel do not find any place in the Middle East for Syria, Iran or Palestine to exist and therefore it is a figment of the imagination to believe that you can negotiate with Israel./end
