US Should Join Convention Prohibiting Chemical Weapons: Boroujerdi

Tehran, Sept 15, IRNA – Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Saturday that the US should sign up to the Convention Prohibiting Chemical Weapons because Washington boasts of the biggest chemical arsenal in the world. He told reporters that the Syrian decision to join the Convention highlighted obligation of the US Administration to honor its commitment to Disarmament in line with the United Nations timetable and the countries beating drums of war didn’t manage to continue with their past policy of ignoring their commitment to Disarmament. “The Zionist regime got angry over the decision and it marked a win for Syria which did not provide the US with any excuse to carry out a military action on the Arab country,” he said. He noted that if the US wants to make such a mistake, it will face opposition by the international community which supported the Syrian decision to bring its chemical weapons under international supervision. Boroujerdi further noted that the international community demands the US as the owner of the biggest chemical arsenal in the world join the Convention Prohibiting Chemical Weapons, and the Zionist regime, considered the main threat to the region, to disarm./end
