US Should Welcome Iran Policy Change: Former Envoy

Tehran, Sept 22, IRNA -- Former Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian said on Saturday that the United States must welcome Iranian policy change presented by President Hassan Rohani. He told IRNA that President Rohani is scheduled to attend the United Nations General Assembly so that the visit to New York should be considered as a suitable opportunity for the international community and the US to enhance level of relations with Iran in line with Iranian declared policy to improve relations with the outside world. He said that Iranian nation has been subject to arbitrary sanctions suffering from harmful impacts which account for gross violation of international law and humanitarian principles, calling for expansion of broad based relations and cooperation with the international community. Any country which can establish warm relations with the world can establish good relations with its neighboring states and this leaves positive impacts to the security and development of the region, he said. Both the Iranian president and foreign minister have clearly outlined Iranian stand and this has created an ideal opportunity for the Americans to make use of it, he said. Exchange of messages between Iran and US is a positive move which would lead to mutual understanding, Taherian said./end
