Velayati: Islamic Awakening Result Of Exploitation Of Muslim Nations

Tehran, Jan 29, IRNA – Secretary General of World Assembly of Islamic Awakening Ali Akbar Velayati said the Islamic awakening was the outcome of ages of exploitation of Muslim nations and their political dependence. Velayati made the remark here Sunday morning in the opening ceremony of the first International Conference of the Islamic Awakening and Youths. Over 1200 young people from all over the world especially from the Islamic countries are participating in the two-day meeting which focuses on developments in the Middle East and North Africa. Velayati noted that the Islamic Awakening is not something happening in a geographical span but rather is a reaction to the looting of the resources of the Muslim nations for centuries. Stressing that the Islamic Awakening should not be regarded as a newly-emerging phenomenon, Velayati, who is also the Supreme Leader's advisor for international affairs, believed that the recent uprisings in the Islamic world is only a phase in which Muslim people, having developed a collective self-awareness, express their views at international scenes. He further noted that challenging the bullying powers aimed at reducing their influence and power in Islamic societies, restoring rights of the Palestinian nation and reviving and reinforcing Islamic identity are among the major demands of the Islamic movements in the regional countries.
