Velayati Says Syria Crisis Is Getting Solved

Tehran, Feb 5, IRNA – Head of Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Council, Ali-Akbar Velayati said Tuesday that the crisis in Syria is getting solved. In a meeting with former Irish prime minister Bertie Ahern, Velayati said terrorism has its roots in extremism that has caused problem for regional people. Fortunately, Irelandˈs situation at home has become better, campaign against terrorism is the only way of life, Velayati said. Referring to conflicts in the region, particularly the humanitarian crisis in Syria, Velayati said that currently many countries have come to the conclusion that political dialogue is the only way out of the humanitarian crisis in Syria. Velayati, an advisor to the Supreme Leader, criticized the massacre of people and destruction of the Syrian infrastructure by terrorist groups. Velayati said Iran has friendly ties with Iraq, Syria and Lebanon and it is natural to support them in critical situation. He said that the international organizations have opted for helping the Syrian people determine their own destiny, a marked shift from previous belief that the Syrian government would collapse within few months after the beginning of conflict in the country. Presently around 11,000 European nationals are fighting with President Bashar Assadˈs government across Syria and it is not clear what they would do when they return back home, Velayati said./end
