Venezuelan Envoy : Caracas Witnessing Media Coup

Tehran, March 8, IRNA – Ambassador of Venezuela to Tehran Amenhotep Zambrano said on Saturday that the country is witnessing a ˈmedia coupˈ which aims at portraying Venezuela as an unstable state. Foreign media are to portray the Venezuelan government as the cause of torture and instability in that country by broadcasting fabricated reports from Venezuela, Zambrano told IRNA in an exclusive interview. Commenting on the recent unrests in Venezuela, Zambarno said foreign media were to change public opinion in Venezuela while the people of Venezuela are supporters of the heritage of the countyˈs late president Hugo Chavez. Rejecting false reports of certain foreign media, the ambassador said the recent unrests in Venezuela were taking place with the support of the United States. Those who failed to take power through elections and democratic ways during the last 15 years, are now trying to grasp the power with the help of the US and by portraying the country as an unstable state, Zambrno added. He further said that Caracas enjoyed the support of the worldˈs independent states including Iran, Russia, China, Vietnam and Belarus. The ambassador said some 25 out of 33 countries in the Latin America have also backed the Venezuelan government. Touching upon a visit to Tehran by the Venezuelan foreign minister which was later called off due to the tensions in Venezuela, Zambrano said the Venezuelan minister would visit Iran when the situation was calm in his country./end
