Veteran US Diplomat Calls For Realistic Approach Toward Iran

Tehran, July 8, IRNA – Veteran US diplomat, Edward P. Djerejian, speaking with the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) website, called for realistic negotiation with Iran on nuclear issue and on Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Djerejian who served in eight Administrations from John F. Kennedy to Bill Clinton (1962-1994) as the United States Ambassador to Syria and Israel and Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs said it seems that Iranian president-elect is a moderate and interested in dialogue. He called for realistic interaction with Rohani government immediately after his inauguration on August 3. He said that in addition to the Syrian crisis, the US government must negotiate with Iran over its nuclear issue, Iraq, Afghanistan, US relations with its Persian Gulf allies and concerns about Iranˈs influence in the region./end
