VICE FM ADDRESSES CONFERENCE FOR LLDCS

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Economic Cooperation Mr D.Gankhuyag addressed the plenary meeting of the Second UN Conference for Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) on November 3. He highlighted our Government's measures taken for overcoming the obstacles the LLDCs have due to their geographical position and emphasized an importance of reflecting the interests of these countries in the Development Goals beyond 2015 based on the Millennium Development Goals. He also appealed the LLDCs to join the MoU on establishing the International Think-Tank for LLDCs, initiated by Mongolia. This Conference is running November 3-5 in Vienna, Austria. For this event, themed “Linking Landlocked Countries to Global Opportunities”, have gathered heads of eight member-states, 40 participants from governments of LLDCs, transit developing countries and donor countries, also UN and other international organizations and a private sector. They are to shape new development agenda for the landlocked developing countries for the next decade. The initiative is being reflected in the UN Conference’s Action Plan for the next decade. Mongolia is actively participating in this conference acting as a Rapporteur. The same day, Mr Gankhuyag held meetings with the minister of road and transportation of Kyrgyzstan Sultan Kalykbek, the executive director of the UNESCAP Shamshad Akhtar, and the Senior Director for the Transport and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Global Practice at the World Bank Pierre Guislain, to share opinions with them on promoting a development of LLDCs and on bilateral cooperation.
