Vietnam actively contributes to human rights council’s session

Geneva, July 6 (VNA) - The Vietnam delegation, led by Ambassador and Head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the UN Nguyen Trung Thanh, actively participated in and contributed to discussions of the United Nations Human Rights Council’s 29th session, which wrapped up in Geneva, Switzerland on July 3. During the three-week session, 25 resolutions and a Presidential Statement were approved, involving numerous issues that draw public concerns and directly affect the full enjoyment of fundamental rights, such as terrorism, climate change, corruption, and protection of vulnerable groups. Ambassador Thanh and other Vietnamese officials delivered speeches on different issues at official discussions, showing the country’s point of view, or on behalf of ASEAN as a Co-Coordinator of the group to the Council in 2015. They stressed the need for the council to exert more efforts to boost dialogue and constructive cooperation, and seek fair and appropriate solutions to differences. At the session, Vietnam co-sponsored eight resolutions, including those relating to climate change, social forum and prevention of discrimination against women. The next session is scheduled to take place in September./.
