Vietnam-Japan University to Open in Sept.

Tokyo, Feb. 1 (Jiji Press)--Vietnam-Japan University, which the two Asian countries will jointly establish in Hanoi, will open with master's courses in September, Japanese officials said Monday. The schedule was confirmed at a meeting of relevant Japanese government agencies. In the future, the university will start a four-year college program. The joint university project is aimed at strengthening Japan-Vietnam cooperation in human resource development and other areas, apparently in view of China's growing presence in recent years. At the meeting, participants agreed that a new council for the joint project will be set up to bring together representatives of the business community and Japanese universities. The representatives will discuss detailed educational programs. Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroshige Seko told the day's meeting that over 400 students attended an explanatory session in Hanoi last December. He also indicated that the government will accelerate preparations for the opening of the university. Japan and Vietnam agreed to set up the university during summit talks in 2013. The university will eventually be placed under the wing of Vietnam National University, Hanoi. END
