Vietnam: Military officers promoted to General

Hanoi, October 6 (VNA) – President Truong Tan Sang announced the promotion of two senior Vietnamese military officers to General ranking during a ceremony in Hanoi on October 5. They are Ngo Xuan Lich, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Chief of the General Department of Politics under the Vietnam People’s Army, and Do Ba Ty, member of the Party Central Committee, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Defence Minister. In his speech, President Truong Tan Sang lauded the two new Generals for their dedication to national liberation and reunification efforts historically as well as current construction and defence initiatives. He asked them to further exercise their ability, brainpower and strong will; uphold the glorious tradition of the Vietnam People’s Army; and stay absolutely loyal to the Party, State, nation and people. They were urged to closely follow campaigns on national defence in the new context, Party build-up, and studying and following the moral examples of President Ho Chi Minh with initial focuses on preparations for all-level Party Congresses and the 12 th National Party Congress. General Ngo Xuan Lich, on behalf of his fellow recipient, pledged to remain loyal to and be deserving of trust from the Party, State and people while playing an exemplary role in building a strong army for the sake of national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity./.
