Vietnamese NA Chairman meets Indian President

Hanoi, September 16 (VNA) – National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said the ongoing visit to Vietnam by Indian President Pranab Mukherjee would boost the traditional friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries. Meeting Mukherjee in Hanoi on September 15, Chairman Hung said stronger coordination between Vietnam and India would contribute to peace, security and prosperity in the region and beyond, adding that he hoped for more cooperation in the fields of economics, national defence, security, and science-technology. The people of Vietnam have always valued the support of the Indian Government and people during Vietnam’s national liberation and development process, he said. Mukherjee informed Hung of the outcomes of his talks with President Truong Tan Sang, and said Indian political parties continuously appreciated the ties with Vietnam. Both sides committed to increasing bilateral trade to 15 billion USD by 2020, up from 8 billion USD today, he told the Chairman. They discussed the operations of their respective legislatures and inter-parliamentary cooperation in the region and worldwide. Chairman Hung also took the occasion to ask Mukherjee to convey his invitation to the Indian parliament’s leaders to attend the 132nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union scheduled for March 2015 in Hanoi. The host also accepted an invitation of the speaker of India’s House of the People to visit India.-VNA
