Virtual consultations held between Kyrgyz, Swedish Foreign Ministries

A consultations were held on Thursday between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Investment of Kyrgyzstan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden in the format of videoconferencing. The press service of the Kyrgyz MFA reported that the Kyrgyz side was represented by Director of the Third Political Department of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry Ulan Dzhusupov, and the Swedish side - by Director of the Department for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Martina Quick. The sides discussed current issues of Kyrgyz-Swedish cooperation in certain areas of mutual interest. Dzhusupov informed about the ongoing reforms in the country, as well as the upcoming parliamentary elections on Nov. 28 this year, while inviting representatives of Sweden as international observers. In view of Sweden's chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in 2021, the sides discussed the interaction of Kyrgyzstan and Sweden within this international organization. In addition, the representatives of the two Foreign Ministries debated the possibility of holding a joint event in 2022 in the framework of upcoming 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kyrgyzstan and Sweden. Ulan Dzhusupov informed about the upcoming 1st Economic Forum "European Union - Central Asia", scheduled for Nov. 5, 2021 in Bishkek, inviting the Swedish side to attend this event. Speaking about the situation in Afghanistan, the sides noted mutual interest in peaceful settlement of the domestic political process in this country. Dzhusupov and Quick agreed to hold next foreign policy consultations in 2022, the date and place of which will be negotiated through diplomatic channels. Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Germany and Sweden Erlan Abdyldaev and Ambassador of Sweden to Kyrgyzstan Christian Camille took part in these consultations.
