We are not in position to say there will be an agreement tomorrow, says Turkish Cypriot president

LEFKOSA (A.A) - February 6, 2012 - Turkish Cypriot President Dervis Eroglu said Monday that the Greek Cypriot administration did not prepare its people for an agreement and rejected all proposals for a solution in the island. Speaking to reporters in the Turkish Cypriot capital of Lefkosa, President Eroglu said that they were not in a position to say that there would be an agreement in Cyprus tomorrow. We are working hard to solve the Cyprus problem but the other side is not in such a hurry. The Greek Cypriot administration does not prepare its people for an agreement and constantly rejects our proposals for a solution, Eroglu noted. It would be tough to do anything during the Greek Cypriot term presidency of the European Union (EU) as of July 1. The Greek Cypriots will hold elections in 2013 and, as such, everyone would be occupied with the elections there, Eroglu stressed. The Greek Cypriots play with time and try to postpone a possible agreement to the second half of 2013. Despite such reality, we press on so that an agreement gets reached in the island, Eroglu underlined. We will not ignore our internal matters even if the Cyprus problem does not get solved, Eroglu added.
