We have no plans to cut off water supply to Syria, says FM Davutoglu

ANKARA (A.A) - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Tuesday that Turkey had no plans to cut off water supply to Syria as part of an international sanctions. Speaking at a joint press conference with Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn in Ankara, Davutoglu said that "we will not impose any sanctions which would affect the lives of Syrian brothers and sisters". Asked if Turkey would participate in a meeting of EU foreign ministers on Syria if an invitation was offered, Davutoglu said that "if an invitation came for consultation, Turkey would accept it wherever it came from in the world". We will evaluate the situation once more when the day and place of the EU meeting is set. So far, we have not received information about the place and date of the EU meeting, Davutoglu said. Answering questions on a possible buffer zone at the Turkish-Syrian border, Davutoglu said that "steps to be taken from now on will be decided with the global community. I have never used the term 'buffer zone' along our border with Syria". What is currently on our agenda are policies we have developed after the Arab League's decision on Syria. I wish that the Syrian administration had listened to the advices coming from Turkey and the Arab countries, Davutoglu said. Our priority is to see Syria find a policy that would help the country reach peace within itself, Davutoglu said. In regard to possible sanctions by Turkey on Syria, Davutoglu said that they would be announced after consultations with the Turkish Prime Minister and President.
