West Approach Toward Iran, Wrong : Analysts

Rome, Oct 20, IRNA – Analysts attending the seminar themed 'international sanctions and its costs' at Italy's' 'Link Campus University' termed here on Thursday, the West's approach towards Iran as wrong. The seminar was attended by Italian and Czech thinkers as well as Iran's Ambassador to Italy Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini. Speaking at the seminar, a Link Campus University, analyst Alberto Negrini pointed to the US and EU unilateral sanctions against Islamic Republic of Iran, and termed the West's approach towards Iran as wrong. Negrini underscored that despite sanctions and the Iraqi-imposed war on Iran at the very beginning of Islamic revolution in Iran, Tehran has made a significant progress in all areas. 'Iran's role as one of the owners of the largest reserves of natural gas and oil cannot be ignored in the world economy,' he added. A Czech Republic Foreign Ministry expert, addressing the seminar, called the isolation of Iran in the world today a fool's idea. 'Five decades of US sanctions against Cuba proved the futile nature of sanctions.' Iran's ambassador to Italy, also downplayed the impacts of the western sanctions on the country, and expressed the confidence that the Iranian nation will come out of the current pressures victorious, thanks to its economic and political power. The sanctions have not made the Iranian nation give up its path of progress; rather it brought about scientific and economic growth, Hosseini said. Thanks to Iran's access to international waters, rich resources and young manpower, regime based on democracy, self-confidence and divine faith, sanctions will never affect the Iranian nation's resolve, he added. 'The use of sanctions and military threats against Iran is against UN charter and basic principles of human rights; unfortunately, the Zionist regime as the only owner of nuclear bombs in the Middle East is not under the International Atomic Energy Agency's inspections and it is even supported by the West.' Despite the rules enshrined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitling every member state, including Iran, to the right of uranium enrichment, Tehran is now under four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions and the western embargos for turning down West's calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment. Tehran has dismissed the West's demand as politically-tainted and illogical, stressing that sanctions and pressures merely consolidate Iranians' national resolve to continue the path. Political observers believe that the United States has remained at loggerheads with Iran mainly over the independent and home-grown nature of Tehran's nuclear technology, which gives the Islamic Republic the potential to turn into a world power and a role model for the other third-world countries.
