WIPO DIRECTOR-GENERAL VISITING

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Mr Francis Gurry started Wednesday an official visit to Mongolia by invitation of the Deputy Prime Minister. The high guest will exchange views with Mongolian authorities on refining upon the intellectual property system in Mongolia, on supporting inventive works in Mongolia and boosting a cooperation between Mongolia and the WIPO. Moreover, a contract on founding a network of centers for supporting technologies and innovations will be established with aims to increase an adequacy of technological information and to augment scientific benefits of universities, institutes and scientific organizations. The WIPO is one of the 17 specialized agencies of the United Nations. It was created in 1967 "to encourage creative activity, to promote the protection of intellectual property throughout the world." The WIPO currently has 188 member states, administers 26 international treaties, and is headquartered in Geneva of Switzerland. Mongolia joined the WIPO in 1979. The current WIPO Director-General is Francis Gurry, he took office on October 1 of 2008.
