WPI Condemns Massacre Of Civilians In Egypt

New Delhi, Aug 17, IRNA - Welfare Party of India (WPI) strongly condemned and criticized the “inhuman massacre” of hundreds of civilians taking part in sit-in protest in Cairo demanding restoration of democracy, by military forces. General secretary of the party S.Q.R. Ilyas in a statement also criticized military junta for declaring emergency and asked Indian government to use all its influences for immediate intervention of UN to thwart further bloodshed and restore civil liberties and democratic order. He blamed the international community and world bodies for being passive spectators and failing to intervene effectively in the right time. He asked the world bodies to urge the Egyptian military forces to halt all repressive measures. Ilyas also conveyed sincere condolences to the bereaved families of martyrs and extended support to the Anti-Coup Alliance for their peaceful and democratic fight for dignity and civilian authority. According to reports, the army attacked with bulldozers and armored vehicles on thousands of peaceful unarmed demonstrators in the ground of Masjid Rabia. Hundreds of people, including women and children, were killed or injured in the attack./end
