Yemen grateful to Russia for supporting its government - top diplomat

MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. Yemen is grateful to Russia for support to its government in the fight against terrorism, efforts to restore statehood and establish peace and security, Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdulmalik Al-Mekhlafi said at a meeting with Russia’s top diplomat Sergey Lavrov on Monday. "Mr. Foreign Minister, I thank you and the Russian government for your stance to support the legitimate Yemeni government, the legitimate authorities led by President Mansour Hadi with regard to efforts to fight terrorism, restore statehood, establish peace and security in the country in accordance with those legislative provisions, which have been agreed in the pan-Yemeni format, in regional and international formats and at the United Nations," he noted. "Unfortunately, we see that the relevant UN resolutions are not complied with, and the Yemeni people continue to suffer," the minister stressed. He recalled that November 2018 will mark 90 years since the signing of a treaty of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. "Those were 90 years of friendship," Al-Mekhlafi stressed. "We have had wonderful relations throughout this period of time. They were based on respect for the principles of equality and each other’s interests, non-interference in internal affairs and respect for our country’s sovereignty. This level of relations makes it possible for us to open up new vistas in terms of strengthening cooperation in various areas and boosting our countries’ capabilities." Read more
