Zarif confers with Romanian president

Bucharest, Nov 9, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif and Romanian President Klaus Werner Iohannis discussed bilateral ties and mutual cooperation in the capital on Wednesday. Zarif arrived in Bucharest late Tuesday on his first leg of the East European visit. Zarif is in Romania to reciprocate his counterpart's visit to Tehran last March. He signed two cooperation memoranda of understanding with his Romanian counterpart in the morning on Wednesday. Zarif also attended Iran-Romania Economic Congress and Conference on Fighting Terrorism and Extremism in Bucharest. Iranian minister is scheduled to confer with Romanian prime minister and Iranian expatriates in the country. Some 30 Iranian economic activists are accompanying Zarif in his visit to Eastern Europe to help promote economic relations. The activists are involved in banking, energy, transportation, medicine and pharmaceuticals, mines, auto parts and agricultural machinery. After Romania, Zarif will travel to Slovakia and Czech for talks with the countries' high-ranking officials on mutual cooperation. Romania exports machinery to Iran and imports nuts, oil, leather, and petrochemicals instead. 1378/IRNA
