Zarif: Iran Keen On Co-op With Eight Developing Nations

Tehran, Oct 9, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif said on Tuesday that Iran is keen on all-out cooperation with group of the eight developing nations. In a meeting with Secretary-General of Group of eight developing nations D-8, Ali Mohammad Moussavi, Zarif said that Iran is fully ready for all-out cooperation with the D-8 and active presence in different meetings, including the next foreign ministers’ meeting, of the Group. Congratulating Mousavi on his election as the D8 secretary-general, Zarif voiced pleasure with an Iranian getting the top post of an important regional organization, wishing him success. Regarding important role of D8 in further expansion of cooperation in the economic, trade, science and technology among big Muslim countries membering the D8. Zarif hoped that with regular consultations among the D8, implementation of the agreements and drawing up proper plans, the Group would develop stronger role for regional and international cooperation. The D-8 secretary-general, for his part invited Iranian foreign minister to attend the upcoming meeting of the D8 foreign ministers in Turkey. He briefed Zarif on the D8 plans and said commercial relations among the member states follow good progress. He said big Muslim states enjoy vast natural and human capacities and rich scientific and technological experiences, hoping for further activation of the D8 in light of active support of the member states./end
