Zebari: applying the Arab initiative is the best solution to protect the Syrian people from death, division

Baghdad (NINA) - Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zibari, stressed "commitment to implementation of the Arab initiative for Syria is to prevent foreign intervention in its affairs and it is the best solution to protect the Syrian people from death, division and fragmentation. Zibari said in a joint press conference today in Baghdad with Arab League Secretary General, Nabeel Al Arabi, “Iraq is the first Arab country that witnessed change towards democracy, its decision towards Syria stems from an independent national interest with emphasis on the importance of continuing efforts of the Arab League to the succeed this initiative.” He continued that "Iraq is always with the peoples’ right and their just demands for freedom, life, and peace, but, the color and type of the regime in Syria is an internal decision of the Syrian people. He noted that "Iraq has contacts with the Syrian government and openness towards the opposition too. That position enables us to achieve a role in the mediation that stops the bloodshed of the Syrian people. Regarding the closure of Camp Ashraf, Zibari mentioned "the UN mission and the UN Secretary General’s representative made contacts with the residents of Camp Ashraf and the Iraqi government. The government's decision is clear, it says that Camp Ashraf will be closed by the end of this year with due respect to the human rights principles.” /End/
