Z.ENKHBOLD MEETS FAMOUS SCHOLARS

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The Speaker Z.Enkhbold received on Tuesday professors Yoshihiro Francis Fukuyama, Larry Diamond and Stephen D. Krasner--scholars on democratic theory from the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at the Stanford University. The Speaker thanked them for visiting Mongolia at invitation of the State Head Ts.Elbegdorj and for giving lectures on the democracy. "Lectures on the democracy given by all of you may seem familiar for some people, but I do not agree with that. It is not easy to understand the democracy, various people interpret it in various ways," he said. He mentioned that a delegation led by Mr. Dennis Hastert, a former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, paid official visit to Mongolia in 2005. Since then, MPs and officers of parliamentary offices have been visiting each other to share experiences, he added. The famous scholars asked about the electoral system and parliament's priorities. A law implementation was slow, the State Great Khural used to go behind the cabinet, "so changing this system is our priority," the Speaker replied. "The current parliament will put a strong control over the law implementation," he said. B.Khuder
