Zionist lobby vents anger over German politician's Palestinian scarf

Berlin, Nov 5, IRNA -- A German politician is facing the wrath of the Zionist lobby for wearing the 'Kaffiyeh' -- the traditional Palestinian scarf, the daily Frankfurter Rundschau reported on Friday. The former head of the Berlin-based German Central Council of Jews, Charlotte Knobloch criticized Gerwald Claus-Brunner, a leading lawmaker of The Pirate Party in Berlin's state parliament, for wearing the Palestinian scarf. Knobloch called on Claus-Brunner to remove the scarf, alleging it was 'anti-Semitic.' Claus-Brunner rejected Knobloch's demands, pointing to his right of 'freedom of opinion.' Many young Germans wear the black and white Palestinian scarf in solidarity with the third world liberation movements, including the resistance in occupied Palestine. The newly founded Pirate Party made headlines in September with the historic victory in Berlin's state elections, winning almost nine percent of the vote. The Pirate Party reached recently an impressive milestone as it hit double digits in the polls for the national elections with one in ten Germans embracing the ideas of the young popular party./end
