12 Students Represent Malaysia At Intel International Science And Engineering Fair

KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 (Bernama) -- Twelve secondary school students represent Malaysia at this year's Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States from May 10-15. Intel, in a statement, said it was the world's largest pre-college science competition where approximately 1,700 high school students from over 75 countries, regions and territories, had opportunity to showcase their independent research and compete for about US$4 million in prizes. The twelve finalists included students from SM Sains Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, SM Sains Tuanku Syed Putra, SMK Seri Kenangan, Kolej Tunku Kurshiah, MRSM Muar, MRSM Langkawi and SMK Batu Lintang. "SMK Batu Lintang hopes to produce its fourth consecutive winner. Last year, Faye Jong Sow Fei from the school bagged the most wins for Malaysia in Intel ISEF history and it hopes to make Leslie Chai Jia Le its fourth this year," the statement said Wednesday. It said Leslie's project entitled 'Biowaste to Biosorbent' was about using chicken bones to treat and remove heavy metals in industrial wastewater, focusing mainly on the galvanizing industry. His project won first prize at the National Science and Engineering Innovation Competition 2014. -- BERNAMA
