ABOUT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The English language fellow in Mongolia has presented a “Read Aloud! Literacy Workshop” to 16 secondary school English teachers, representing seven of the schools that participated in the workshop, the US Embassy’s website has published. This teacher workshop, which is the final component of Mongolia’s “World Read Aloud” project, promotes language learning by giving teachers the tools to conduct a read-aloud in their classroom. The fellow worked with teachers to build their own read-aloud lesson similar to the one in which they observed the fellow conduct at their respective schools with The Giving Tree. Teachers left with detailed planning tools to help them organize future “Read Aloud” events. The educators who attended the workshop teach a wide spectrum of students, including beginner to advanced level English speakers, students with cognitive disabilities, and visually impaired students. One of the greatest successes of the workshop is the secondary school English teachers building a professional community to support one another in teaching English to diverse student learners, it says.
