AGU participates in Green Technology meeting in Jordan

Manama, Aug. 20 (BNA): The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) has participated in two meetings organised by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Technology Centre for Development in Amman. The meetings aimed to discuss the methods of utilizing green technology and the investment required to implement the twelfth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which targets “Sustainable Consumption and Productivity”. Representing the university during the meetings, which were held in co-ordination with the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organisation, the Climate Technology Center and Network, and the Technology Bank, was Assistant Professor in the Environment Department in the College of Graduate Studies in AGU Dr. Sumaya Yousif. The first meeting was the seventh for the technical committee of the ESCWA Technology Centre, while the second meeting was for the Arab experts. Both of the meetings discussed the means of adapting and using green technology, as well as investment in it and spreading it with the focus on the technologies in use in the agriculture and food sector and other related fields, such as water and energy. They also debated on the issue of solid waste management resulting from wars and conflicts in the Arab region. Dr. Sumaya stressed the importance of both meetings to communicate with various experts and researchers as well as entrepreneurs, to exchange ideas, thoughts and experiences, in a bid to create horizons among them, besides studying the youth’s efforts to find sustainable solutions based on latest innovations. The attendees came up with several visions for potential green technology-based projects that can come to life in the Arab countries in the agriculture and solid waste management fields.
