Antique coins discovered in Vietnam's central province

Ha Tinh, October 13 (VNA) – A local family in Vietnam's central province of Ha Tinh has discovered 22kg of ancient bronze coins in their garden, said Le Ba Hanh, Deputy Director of the provincial Museum. Initial examination showed that the coins were from both Vietnam and China. The Vietnamese pieces dated from 1740-1786 during the Le Dynasty, while the Chinese coins were made between 1085-1676, he said. According to Dang Van Sinh, the owner of the garden, the family only knew about the coins after a thief dug them up. The coins were found in five ceramic jars and a Le-era bowl which were broken during the digging. The location of the garden is near the bank of Ngan Sau river, near the ruins of some old relics. Hanh said the provincial museum plan to excavate some sites in the area for further research.-VNA
