COVID-19: Thailand Confirms 107 New Cases, Total Now 934

By Linda Khoo Hui Li BANGKOK, March 25 (Bernama) -- Thailand Wednesday reported 107 new COVID-19 cases, including two doctors, bringing the total to 934 with four deaths. Public Health Ministry spokesman Thaweesilp Wissanuyothin said 27 new cases are linked to earlier infections – 14 of them had close contact with confirmed cases, five visited entertainment outlets, four attended Muay Thai matches and four others attended a mass religious gathering at a mosque in Malaysia. He added 13 other new cases included six who had travelled abroad, five worked in crowded places and had contact with foreigners and two doctors after patients hid information when seeking treatment at hospitals. A total of 67 new cases from unknown clusters and the authorities are investigating the source of infections, he said. “The two doctors are not in serious condition. However, a total of 25 healthcare workers who were in close contact with the doctors need to undergo home quarantine. “Do not conceal information as it will put healthcare workers at risk of contracting COVID-19 and affect the healthcare system in the country,” he said at the COVID-19 daily briefing here today. To date, Thailand has recorded 934 cases with four fatalities, 70 patients have been discharged while 860 remain hospitalised. Thaweesilp said COVID-19 has spread to all provinces in the kingdom. “Of the total COVID-19 cases, about 25 per cent are those who attended Muay Thai matches in Bangkok while another 10 per cent are those who visited entertainment outlets,” he said. Tuesday, Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan o-cha announced that Thailand will enforce a month-long state of emergency starting tomorrow with tougher measures to curb the COVID-19 pandemic. -- BERNAMA
