First Congress of Azerbaijani scientists kicks off

Baku, December 19, AzerTAc The First Congress of Azerbaijani scientists has kicked off today. The congress is co-organized by Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Ministry of Communications and High Technologies (MCHT) and Ministry of Education The Congress aims to discuss functions and tasks of science in the light of “Azerbaijan 2020: A Look into the Future” development concept and mobilize scientific potential of Azerbaijan, as well as support the state policy on socio-economic and cultural development of the country. In this regard, it’s very important to develop relations between researchers from academic, educational, business and social sectors, including Azerbaijani scientists living abroad. Influential Azerbaijani scientists working abroad, as well as representatives from government, business and civil society are attending the Congress. The event is being broadcast live over the Internet. The event is attended by chief of the humanitarian policy department of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Fatma Abdullahzade, Deputy Prime Minister Elchin Efendiyev, State Adviser on Multinational, Multicultural and Religious Affairs, academician Kamal Abdulla, ANAS president, academician Akif Alizade, Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov and Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov. Chief of the humanitarian policy department of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Fatma Abdullahzade read out the message of congratulation addressed the congress participants by President Ilham Aliyev. ANAS President, academician Akif Alizade delivered a lecture on “Challenges of the modern world and priorities of Azerbaijani science”. He said that there are several factors on the close combination of the national unity around the idea of Azerbaijan: “All aspects of humanities should gain momentum to preserve the history of our people, its ancient traditions, rich cultural heritage and we must be able to deliver them to the future generations as a gift”. Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov and Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov will also address the congress. Declaration of the First Congress of Azerbaijani Scientists will be adopted at the end of the congress, and an appeal will be made to President Ilham Aliyev on behalf of congress participants. Note that decision on holding the First Congress of Azerbaijani scientists was adopted at ANAS General Meeting on April 18, 2014.
