HCM City issues plan against looming MERS spread

HCM City, June 30 (VNA) – Vietnam's southern metropolis Ho Chi Minh City has issued a Plan of Action as prep against the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) threat. The plan lays out three scenarios covering the discovery of first infection case, early diagnosis, isolation and timely treatment. Firstly, a city-level Steering Board in charge of MERS prevention and control will be established, followed by steering boards for the grassroots levels. Supervision will be conducted mostly at Tan Son Nhat airport and seaports while a test lab for MERS-CoV virus will be opened at the municipal Hospital for Tropical Diseases and training for medical staff continues. If any suspected case is detected, those making previous contacts with the patient will be closely tracked to prevent infections. The preventive medicine centres at all levels will deploy on-standby mobile teams whereas the municipal Health Department is responsible for raising public awareness of all possible precautions. In case of the virus spread, the city will launch field hospitals and other medical facilities to treat patients, with mobile teams on stand-by round-the-clock. The steering board under the Heath Department will convene daily meetings to keep abreast of the developments and give timely direction. Earlier, a Health Ministry delegation held a working session with the municipal People’s Committee, hospitals and airports to learn about the situation./.
