Iran Ranks 2nd In Medicine Consumption In Asia

Tehran, Sept 29, IRNA - Iran ranks second after China in terms of medicine consumption in Asia, an official at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences said on Monday. Talking to IRNA, Mansour Rastegar Panah said statistics show each Iranian takes 339 tablets annually, adding that the rate of self-prescription in Iran is higher that the global standards. "Tranquilizers, eye drops and antibiotics constitute a majority of self-prescribed drugs in Iran,” he said. "Medicines can treat illnesses and alleviate symptoms, but they also give rise to adverse side effects. Improper use of medicines can make users face health hazards," the official added./end
