Iran ranks 2nd in regional cognitive sciences

Tehran, Nov 1, IRNA - Iran ranked second in the region and 26th in the world in cognitive sciences in 2013, an official said in the opening ceremony of the Third Basic and Clinical Neuroscience Conference (BCNC 2014). Kamal Kharrazi, the head of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies Council affiliated to Presidential Office’s Department of Science and Technology, added that Iran ranked third in the region following Turkey and 34th in the world in the field in 2012. Kharrazi noted that researchers at Iran University of Medical Sciences are producing tiny electrodes for deep brain stimulation (DBS). “Iranian scientists are also developing humanoid robots to help train children with autism,” he said. The conference held in Tehran during October 29-31. Iranian Neuroscience Society (INSS) and the university organized the event. Over 1,000 Iranian and foreign neuroscientists, neurosurgeons and neurologists attended the conference. The BCNC 2014 conference was themed “Signaling and Processing from Neurons to Societies” and offered an opportunity of learning through both theoretical and practical approaches. Our scientific program covered the latest technologies and current status of the field, with applied learning opportunities. The main topics of conference were as follows: • Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience • Clinical Neuroscience • Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience • Computational Neuroscience . Electrophysiology and Brain Mapping . Neurodevelopmental Disorders . Neuropsychiatry and Neuropsychology . Neurophilosophy and Philosophy of Mind. Dr. Mustafa Naziroglu, the head of the Department of Biophysics, director of Neuroscience Research Center, Faculty of Medicine, University of Suleyman Demirel, Isparta, Turkey and Dr. Carlos Alberto Bezzerra Tomaz from the Institute of Biology, University of Brasilia, Brazil, were keynote speakers./end
