Japan Drug Venture Successfully Creates Antibody to Ebola

Tokyo, Dec. 2 (Jiji Press)--Chiome Bioscience Inc. <4583>, a Tokyo-based drug discovery venture company, said Tuesday it has successfully produced an antibody to the Ebola virus. The antibody easily responds to mutations in the virus as it was produced in just under a month, much less than the several months usually required, the company said. The company will seek a partner from among research institutes overseas to develop therapeutic agents. Attached to a specific antigen of a virus, an antibody neutralizes the toxins of the virus or removes them from the body. Chiome Bioscience used its own technology to pinpoint an antibody that responds to the antigen of the Ebola virus from various antibodies produced from chicken cells. The company plans to replace the main parts of the genes of the chicken antibody with human antibody genes. END
