Malaysia Will Cooperate With Kyrgyz In Medical Field, Says Health Minister

PUTRAJAYA, April 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and the Kyrgyz Republic will cooperate in sharing knowledge, expertise and resources in the field of medicine and healthcare, said Health Minister Dr S. Subramaniam. Dr Subramaniam said both countries wished to strengthen cooperation in public health, research as well as medical care. “We had a bilateral discussion, on a very informal basis on how both countries can cooperate in future. In the field of medicine, there has been interest shown in sharing resources in development of health facilities in Kyrgyz. “There is a request from Her Excellency Dr Raisa Atambaeva (First Lady of Republic Kyrgyz) on the sharing of expertise and resources from Malaysia,” he said after hosting Dr Raisa and her delegation who visited the Putrajaya Hospital and National Cancer Institute here Monday. Dr Raisa is here to attend the two-day inaugural 2014 International Seminar on Austism starting April 22 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC). Dr Subramaniam said Malaysia was also very enthusiastic to learn from the republic on how to control the problem of obesity, which is one of the major health care problems in this country. “I was quite surprised that obesity is not a problem in Krygyz. We (Ministry of Health) have to learn about it, so it will help to resolve our obesity problem here. Malaysia is the most obese country in Asean,” he said, adding that the republic encouraged people to practice healthy lifestyle, including to eat more organic foods. Meanwhile, Dr Raisa said such cooperation and partnership would definitely benefit the people of both countries. -- BERNAMA
