Malaysia"s Education Ministry Proposes In-School Vaccination

BATU PAHAT (Johor, Malaysia) July 23 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Education has proposed for students of Year 4 and 5, to be vaccinated in schools. Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid said the ministry fully supported the Health Ministry's decision to begin immunisation screenings to identify students who had missed being immunised. "On our part, we've set up a database and the district education offices are also ready," he told reporters after attending an educators' dialogue programme here, Friday. "We estimate about 7,000 primary schools nationwide will be involved in the immunisation screening," he said. He said administering the vaccines at school would make it easier for parents and teachers to monitor and manage the process. On Thursday, Health Minister Dr S. Subramaniam said the immunisation screening would be held next month. -- BERNAMA
