Scientific Successes Made in DPRK

Pyongyang, May 26 (KCNA) -- Scientific successes have been registered one after another in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The decision, made at the Seventh Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, says that the scientific and technological field should play the leading role in stepping up the integration of the science, technology and economy and putting the country's economy on a modern and IT basis. The Bioengineering Branch of the State Academy of Sciences succeeded in breeding a new strain of salt-resisting rice whose vitality is stronger than the existing ones. The new strain was proved highly productive even in tideland-turned fields. The Academy of Agricultural Science has bred a new strain of soybean, tolerant of bad weather and it can be planted as a second crop. Kim Il Sung University has laid a foundation for realizing the local production of silicon steel sheet. University of Sciences succeeded in locally making the hardening agent for mold. Paper Engineering Institute of the State Academy of Sciences developed a new kind of paper machine capable of simultaneously manufacturing various kinds of paper, as well as pulp-transfer pump of simple structure easy to operate. -0-
