Tehran To Host Int’l Genetics Congress

Tehran, May 17, IRNA - The First International and 13th Iranian Genetics Congress will be held at Shahid Beheshti University from May 24 to 26. Hosted by the Iranian Genetics Society, around 1,300 experts, both local, and from foreign countries, including Spain, Belgium, Germany, Austria and Australia, will attend the event. Kasra Isfahani, a faculty member of the National Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and the executive secretary of the event, said over 1,300 articles on plant genetics and animal genetics have been received by the secretariat of the event. “Forensic pathology, new techniques of genetic engineering and stem cell and biological resource center are the main topics that will be discussed in the congress,” he said. Iran’s scientific book of the year on genetics will be selected in the event. Mahmoud Tavallaei, a member of the Iranian Genetics Society’s Board of Directors, said researchers at Pars Genome Company have developed a kit for early diagnosis of different types of cancers. He added that the meeting will be an excellent opportunity to show and discuss the experts’ latest achievements on different aspects of genetics. The program will include conferences, oral communications and poster presentations. Genetics is the science of genes, heredity and variation in living organisms. Since genes are universal to living organisms, genetics can be applied to the study of all living systems, including bacteria, plants, animals and humans./end
