Thailand joins GMS actions against HIV/AIDS spread among immigrants

BANGKOK, December 21 (TNA) - Thailand has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with other five member countries of the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) on joint actions to reduce risks of HIV/AIDS spread among migrating population. According to Thailand's Public Health Minister Wittaya Buranasiri, the MOU was concluded during the 4th GMS Summit, held in Myanmar's capital, Nay Pyi Taw, from December 19-20 to secure future GMS cooperation against the concerned issue and to take care of migrant workforces. Wittaya acknowledged that the agreement was a final outcome of an initiation first aired by anti-HIV/AIDS campaigning programs of each GMS member country, with support from the Manila-based Asian Development Bank (ADB), in 2009. The GMS member nations include Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand and China. (TNA)
