UAE Ministry of Health announces new rotavirus vaccine

The Ministry of Health has announced the launch of a new rotavirus vaccine as part of the national immunisation programme. This came on the eve of a scientific conference about immunisation, which was organised in connection with World Immunisation Week, by the Central Administration for Preventive Medicine at the Ministry of Health yesterday in Sharjah. Dr. Hussein Mohammed Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for Health Centres and Clinics, opened the event which was attended by Dr. Ibrahim Al Qadi, Director of Preventive Medicine Department, Mohammed Abdullah Al Zarooni, Director of Sharjah Medical District and a number of specialists. The ceremony highlighted the importance of the immunisation programme since it has a positive impact on individuals and community members. It also introduced the audience to the latest updates in the field of immunisation and vaccinations. Dr. Al Rand commented, "Immunisation is the best and safest way to protect children from infectious diseases. Each year, all the member states of the world health organisation unify their motto to ensure integration between community members and achieve the goals of the immunisation programmes. Such programmes maintain the public health of community members, encourage them save their children from infectious diseases, disseminate health awareness in society through national immunisation programmes and apply its goals and objectives." Dr. Al Rand said that the UAE is one of the leading countries in improving immunisation programmes thanks to the support of its wise government. "This unlimited support extended to help developing countries achieve the main goals of the immunisation programme and get recognised by international countries and organisations. The programme included children less than 5 years, school students, adults, passengers, labourers as well as categories that are exposed to dangers. It also included new vaccinations to provide full safe and secure health services. The UAE managed to eradicate a number of targeted infectious diseases, such as chicken pox, polio, neo-natal tetanus, measles and rubella, and control infectious diseases like tuberculosis and those affecting children." At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Al Rand announced the inclusion of new vaccines as part of the national immunisation program such as rotavirus and tetra-a cellular vaccine. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
