UNFPA pledges to help Laos on mother and child health care

VIENTIANE,01.27.2012 (KPL)- The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) confirmed to actively work to help Laos to reduce the mortality of mother and child and to up hold the role of the women and youth. It will also held Laos to prepare for National population censuses in order to participate in the international conference on population which will be held in 2014. Dr. Esther Muia, Representative of the UNFPA to Lao PDR has made this confirmation during her courtesy visit to Mrs. Pany Yathortou, President of the National Assembly in Vientiane on 25 January. At the meeting, Mrs. Pany Yathortou praised and highly valued the appointment of Dr. Esther Muia as a big contribution to further strengthen the friendship relation and co-operation between Laos and the UNFPA. NA President also expressed thanks to the UNFPA for its support and assistance for the social-economic development in Laos during the past and present time. On this occasion, Dr. Esther Muia expressed thanks to NA President for her0 warm welcome and confirmed that she would do her utmost to enhance the relation and co-operation between Laos and UNFPA. Dr. Esther Muia (Kenya) assumed the post of UNFPA Representative in Lao PDR on 27 October, 2011. Ms. Muia joined UNFPA in March 2003 as HIV Adviser, Country Support Team in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and provided technical assistance to countries in Africa as well as capacity building at the regional level on HIV and RH issues.
