Shymkent, July 24, 2009 (Khabar) - Soil of Southern Kazakhstan will be disinfected as tick’s sting causes Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever among people. Berik Torgautov, head of department of sanitary-epidemiological inspection has said this during briefing. Southern Kazakhstan is considered to be natural hearth of spreading of dangerous tick. And the chief sanitary doctor says they receive very little money for disinfection of soil in the region. This May epidemiological fund allocated 3 million 700 000 tenge and about 2 million square meters of soil in 53 settlements were disinfected for this sum. Mainly those villages are disinfected where ticks’ stings were registered during previous years. And this year fever occurred in Turkestan city and Sairam district, this disease didn’t happen here earlier. Healthcare department says 9 cases of catching of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever were registered there and five of them are with lethal outcome. One man died in Sairam. In general, 11 people of South Kazakhstani region were infected with Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever. Sanitary doctors initiated mass disinfection of soil in all the districts of the region.

Berik Torgautov, head of department of sanitary-epidemiological inspection in South Kazakhstani region:
- Now we take the measures to form the regional headquarters. We ask the administrations of towns and districts to allocate additional funds for disinfection and we presented them calculations. Turkestan city supported us the first and allocated 650 000 tenge and we carry out disinfection there. The city also allocated additional 900 000 tenge and plan to give 1 million 200 000 tenge. And the regional budget plans to allocate 20 million tenge through the Ministry of Emergency, and the republic will allocate over 200 million tenge.
