222 Athletes to Represent Qatar in 18th Asian Games in Indonesia

Doha, August 11 (QNA) - The State of Qatar will participate in the 18the Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, with 222 athletes representing 20 sports federations in 30 events, from August 18 to September 2, as Qatar's largest participation in the Asian Games.
HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al -Thani, President of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) will head Qatar's delegation.
Qatari teams participating in the Asian Games aspire to return home with new achievements.
The opening ceremony of the Asian Games will take place on August 18, and the General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia will be held on August 19, in the presence of representatives of the National Olympic Committees of Asia.
In support of Qatar's participation in the 2018 Asian Games, HE Jassim Al Buainain, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee, said: "In accordance with the directives of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al -Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, the QOC always seeks to support sports federations by providing a suitable environment for our teams and athletes in order to achieve athletic excellence as a strategic objective of the Qatar Olympic Committee."
Al-Buainain said: "Qatar is a loving country for sports and believes in the power of sports to unite, inspire, empower and educate the community of all ages and abilities." The 2006 Asian Games was a catalyst for the development of Qatari sport and had an exceptional impact on our hearts, he added.
"We support our players and trust their ability to raise the flag of Qatar in the Asian forum, and we hope that their success will inspire young players in Qatar to follow them and represent Qatar in the future."
