AFC U-16: Malaysia On Right Footing With 6-2 Bashing Of Tajikistan

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 (Bernama) — Malaysia began their Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-16 Championship campaign on the right footing by trouncing Tajikistan 6-2 in a Group A opener at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil Thursday. The squad under coach Lim Teong Kim shot ahead with three goals in the first half before adding another three in the second half to earn three precious points. Striker Luqman Hakim Shamsudin contributed four goals to give Malaysia a strong start in the mission to win a slot in the 2019 Under-17 World Cup in Peru. In the match, Luqman Hakim opened the score for Malaysia in the 30th minute before Muhammad Najmudin Akmal made 2-0 three minutes later via a penalty after Luqman Hakim was brought down by the opponent in the penalty area. Malaysia continued to attack Tajikistan’s defence and was rewarded with the third goal by Luqman Hakim in the 42nd minute. In the second half, Malaysia were on target again when Luqman Hakim scored his first hat-trick for the team’s fourth goal in the 46th minute before slamming in another in the 66th minute to make it 5-0 for Malaysia. Tajikistan finally found their touches when Rahmatov Sharifbek converted a penalty in the 72 nd minute, but Malaysia widened the margin further with the sixth goal via Muhamad Alif Mutalib through in a penalty kick. As the game was about to end, Tajikistan were awarded a penalty converted by Zairov Islom in the 90th minute after national goalkeeper Sikh Izhan Nazrel was given a red card for a rough tackle. Malaysia will meet Thailand in their second match on Sunday before completing the group fixtures against Japan next Wednesday. — BERNAMA
